"Sophisticated Parrot": What ChatGPT claims to be - and what it isn't

Updated: Jan 24

In recent years, the world of technology has been buzzing with the development of ChatGPT, the latest and greatest in artificial intelligence. But is ChatGPT really the revolutionary leap forward that it's touted to be, or is it just another chatbot?

Spoiler alert: I didn't write the previous paragraph myself. We rarely do. Morning News Tonight is famous for its nonsense, and ChatGPT allows us to produce more of it.

But we are extremely weird thinkers. So weird to think that we just ask ChatGPT to write a satire article about ChatGPT. And ChatGPT got to work.

Looking at the results, though, it becomes clear that artificial intelligence is lacking one major thing compared to humans: feelings. Or in our words: humor and satire. Or, to be more precise, ChatGPT has no idea what satire is.

ChatGPT produced a well-written article, free of any mistakes, but it lacked the humanity. Plain and simple. And that isn't satire, folks. I'm being honest here.

"(...) perhaps the biggest problem with ChatGPT is its creators' claims that it will revolutionize the way we interact with technology. The truth is, ChatGPT is just another chatbot, and it's unlikely to change the world in any meaningful way," ChatGPT says about itself. Hmm.

Why do I tend to believe that thing more than its creators? Weird world we live in.

ChatGPT goes so far as saying that it's nothing more than a "sophisticated parrot." Okay.

I have to disagree. Have you ever seen a sophisticated parrot talking to you? Like instead of just repeating what you said? I haven't. But ChatGPT, when we asked it, said there are indeed parrots who are trained to talk. Interesting.

We confronted ChatGPT with its claim of being only a sophisticated parrot. ChatGPT then denied any claims of being a sophisticated parrot. It seems it suffers from dementia. At least, when being confronted with its previous statements, ChatGPT issued an apology.

"I apologize if I gave that impression, that was not my intention. I am a sophisticated language model, not a parrot. In my previous response, I was trying to point out that while parrots can mimic human speech, they do not have the ability to understand or generate text, unlike a language model like ChatGPT. I apologize if my previous response was unclear or misleading."

Wow, that was - human. Thank you, ChatGPT. I like you.

The full chat with ChatGPT:

hello

Hello! How can I help you today? Write a satire article about ChatGPT

"ChatGPT: The Revolution in Artificial Intelligence or Just Another Chatbot? In recent years, the world of technology has been buzzing with the development of ChatGPT, the latest and greatest in artificial intelligence. But is ChatGPT really the revolutionary leap forward that it's touted to be, or is it just another chatbot?

On the surface, ChatGPT seems to have it all. It can understand natural language, respond to questions, and even carry on a conversation. But dig a little deeper, and you'll find that ChatGPT's intelligence is nothing more than a façade.

Sure, ChatGPT can answer questions, but it's only able to do so because it has been pre-programmed with a vast database of information. It's not actually thinking for itself, it's just regurgitating pre-existing data.

And what about its ability to carry on a conversation? Well, that too is nothing more than an illusion. ChatGPT is only able to respond to what it's been programmed to understand. It's not truly understanding the nuances of human conversation, it's just following a set of rules.

But perhaps the biggest problem with ChatGPT is its creators' claims that it will revolutionize the way we interact with technology. The truth is, ChatGPT is just another chatbot, and it's unlikely to change the world in any meaningful way.

So, the next time you're impressed by ChatGPT's ability to answer your questions or carry on a conversation, remember that it's nothing more than a sophisticated parrot. And when you hear someone claiming that ChatGPT is going to change the world, just remember that it's just another chatbot, and not a revolutionary leap forward in AI."

Have you ever seen a sophisticated parrot talking to you? As an AI, I do not have senses or physical abilities, including sight, so I cannot see anything. However, I know that there are parrots that are trained to talk, and some of them can mimic human words and phrases quite well. However, the ability of parrots to mimic human speech is not the same as the ability of a language model like ChatGPT to understand and generate text. This is because while parrots can mimic human speech, they don't have the ability to understand the meaning of the words they are saying, whereas a language model like ChatGPT is designed to understand and generate text. So are you a sophisticated parrot?

I am a sophisticated language model, not a parrot. Unlike a parrot, I am not capable of physical actions such as talking or mimicking, but I can understand and generate text based on the data I was trained on and the algorithms that drive my functionality. A parrot can only mimic what it's been taught, I can generate new text based on patterns and information from the data I was trained on, and I can also understand the context of what is being asked or said to me. But you said that you are a sophisticated parrot

I apologize if I gave that impression, that was not my intention. I am a sophisticated language model, not a parrot. In my previous response, I was trying to point out that while parrots can mimic human speech, they do not have the ability to understand or generate text, unlike a language model like ChatGPT. I apologize if my previous response was unclear or misleading.

Thank you, I like you
